Lower Your Utility Costs By 10% With New Attic Insulation

Older homes’ attics are often under-insulated, resulting in thousands of dollars of energy bills literally wafting away. According to the Department of Energy, adding additional insulation can cut your energy costs by up to 20%, reducing your total household energy bills by 10%.

The Cost Savings of Insulation Pays For Itself Within 5 Years

There are probably no other home improvement projects which pay for themselves so quickly as attic insulation installation. You’ll immediately see a reduction in your power bills, no matter the season, and you’ll reduce the stress on your HVAC system.

The Benefits of Upgrading Your Insulation

Increased Energy Efficiency

The level of insulation recommended in homes varies by regions, your Dragon Insulation provider will be able to ensure your attic has the right R-Value for your area. The result is significant savings and a long lifespan for your HVAC system.

More Comfortable Living Spaces

Under-insulated homes will rapidly heat up when your AC switches off (or cool down in the winter), causing unpleasant temperature swings. Some homes may even have rooms which are never able to reach your target temperature! After adding insulation, your home’s internal temperature will be more consistent and comfortable all year long.

Enjoy a Quieter Home

All insulation naturally absorbs acoustic vibrations and muffles unwanted sounds, helping you to enjoy a quieter, more peaceful home. Talk to your local Dragon provider to learn which insulation options are available in your area.

Attic Insulation FAQs

What does R-Value Mean?

R-Value is a number used to describe a material’s resistance to the flow of heat. The higher the r-value of the insulation, the less heat loss or heat gain a space will experience.

What is the difference between different types of insulation?

Insulation materials like fiberglass, rock-wool, cellulose, and spray foam insulation all rely on trapped air for their insulating properties. While the exact thickness of each material to achieve a certain R-Value may vary, the underlying insulating properties are the same.

One key difference between insulations is how it is installed. The four most common installation types are: loose-fill insulation, batt insulation, spray foam insulation, and rigid foam.

Loose-fill is applied via a blower which blows the insulation on top of your attic floor joists. Batt insulation comes in rolled mats of pre-defined thickness which are laid or stapled into place. Spray foam insulation is a liquid which is applied with a paint-sprayer like device which foams and then hardens in place. Rigid foam insulation are sheets of stiff foam which are installed behind drywall and between ceiling joists.

What is the right amount of insulation for my home?

The minimum amount of insulation appropriate for your home depends on where you live. Your Dragon Insulation provider will be able to ensure your attic has the right R-Value in order to help you save money while reducing the time for a return on investment for the upgrade.

How long does insulation last?

Blown fiberglass insulation is incredibly long lasting, easily providing a service life of 30 years. The fiberglass itself actually lasts essentially forever, but as gravity pulls the insulation down and packs it more tightly it gradually loses its insulating properties.

If your home has old insulation in place we may be able to add more insulation on top of it to help your attic reach your desired R-Value.

Can I add insulation to my attic if my home doesn’t have attic access?

Yes, in most cases you can still add insulation even without attic access. We’ll need to do an onsite assessment in order to determine the best solution for your home.

Can I add insulation on top of my existing insulation?

Yes, in many cases we are able to blow an additional layer of insulation on top of old insulation. In some cases, such as rodent infestation or water damage, we recommend removing the old insulation completely before adding more.
